The Huffman Family Sports Performance Center

Salisbury University Athletics is renovating its east campus sports performance center later this year thanks to a gift from the Huffman Family Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Huffman Family Brands.

Sea Gull student-athletes soon will be able to work out in a completely updated, reimagined performance center. The Huffman Family Sports Performance Center will be located on east campus, near Sea Gull Stadium, and replace the current weight room facility.

This donation reflects The Huffman Family Foundation’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the success and wellbeing of student-athletes and is part of its broader initiative to foster excellence in individuals and institutions that make a positive difference in the lives of students, families and communities. The renovation of the Sports Performance Center will include state-of-the-art fitness equipment, updated training spaces and branding expected to help student-athletes train at the highest level and feel inspired as Sea Gulls. The facility will be designed to support the physical wellbeing of all athletes, providing them with the resources they need to excel in their athletic endeavors and personal health journeys.

“We are proud to champion Salisbury Athletics and its unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Richard Huffman, founder and chief executive officer of Huffman Family Brands. “We believe that success is built on a foundation of high performance, and this renovation is a direct investment in the student-athletes’ ability to train, compete and thrive. By enhancing their facilities, we’re not only elevating their competitive edge but also fostering a culture of resilience, growth and achievement—both on and off the field.”

The need for this renovation was driven by the growing demand for improved training facilities in collegiate athletics. With student-athletes pushing themselves harder than ever before, the previous facility had reached its limits in terms of space, equipment and modern training technologies. By investing in the renovation, The Huffman Family Foundation is addressing these needs and ensuring that athletes have access to cutting-edge tools to maximize their performance and minimize injury.

“We are incredibly grateful for this donation and the vision behind it,” said Monica Polizzi, Salisbury University director of athletics and campus recreation. “The new facility will play a pivotal role in elevating our student-athletes' training experience and their overall wellbeing. With the support of the Huffman Family, we are confident our student-athletes will be even better equipped to achieve their full potential in competition, in the classroom and in our community.”

The gift will allow Salisbury Athletics to purchase all new sports performance equipment and facility enhancements. It also is the driving force for a Giving Day campaign on Tuesday, April 1, for the new Sports Performance Center. While the gift covers all the equipment, branding and signage, infrastructure repairs first need to be made. Polizzi hopes those who can, will consider helping support the center needs this Giving Day to help expedite the process of renovating the space.

Theatre

Give to Theatre on Giving Day!

The Bobbi Biron Theatre Program offers performance opportunities to all university students. The program presents a range of plays from the 18th century to the present. The Department offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre that balances a broad liberal arts perspective with the specifics of professional training focused on either performance or design and production. Anchored in the classical tradition, the program examines theatre through aesthetic education and criticism, creative expressions, and historical and socio-cultural perspectives. Our theatres graduates are prepared for placement in professional theatres, graduate school, or related fields.

Our faculty need your help to give our students an understanding, not only of how to execute a successful theatrical performance, but also of how centuries of plays and playwrights successfully captured and influenced history. Your gift, no matter the size, combined with others, will help the Theatre Department provide an extraordinary program for our students. Your investment will supply quality materials for student productions such as costumes, sets, and scenery.

Tom & Nancy Jones Undergraduate Research Fund

Dr. Tom Jones is no stranger to Salisbury University. The former biological sciences professor, dean and provost has helped nurture students in the classroom and beyond during his three-plus decades at SU.

Though retired since 2014, he and his wife, Anne-Marie “Nancy” Jones, former facilities manager at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), will continue that impact on the campus with the establishment of the Tom and Nancy Jones Undergraduate Research Fund.

This endowment gift provides financial resources for undergraduate students to conduct research and present their work in the biological, environmental and marine sciences.

“It is with much gratitude to Salisbury University that Nancy and I provide this endowment to help promote undergraduate research,” Dr. Jones said. “I deeply appreciate the opportunities that SU has afforded me to help develop new generations of science educated professionals.”

University Archives

The University Archives documents the collective memory of Salisbury University, from its founding as the State Normal School in 1925 to the present day. The holdings of the University Archives reside on the fourth floor of the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons. Items in the University Archives have an enduring value to Salisbury University and are intended for permanent retention. In addition to the university’s permanent records, the University Archives actively acquire, arrange, describe, and preserve documentation of campus life as well as the history and administration of Salisbury University. The staff provide reference assistance to Salisbury University students, faculty, and administrators and off‐campus researchers and disseminate information about the holdings of the University Archives through instruction, exhibits, and campus publications.

The University Archives’ collections attempt to cover all aspects of campus life and all academic subject areas. Current collection strengths include: campus administration, university publications, photographs of the campus and university life, and university athletics. The resources of the University Archives are unique and rarely overlap with other archival repositories. Your gift would assist with the cost of preserving and digitizing current and future archival materials, making it easier for alumni, faculty, staff, students, and others to access the rich and unique history of Salisbury University.

The University Archives is actively collecting materials. Some topic areas include student organization ephemera (constitutions, flyers, photographs, member lists, etc), documentation of student life (diaries, letters, photographs, audio/visual materials, etc), and items related to diversity and inclusion on campus, especially for minority groups and the LGBTQ+ communities. If you are interested in donating materials, please contact Jen Piegols, the University Archivist at jhpiegols@salisbury.edu.

University Greatest Need Fund

Give to University Greatest Need Fund on Giving Day!

When you think about your time at Salisbury University, I am willing to bet you think about the people and experiences you had. The faculty member who was always available to answer a question or was there for you in times of stress. The friends you made during your freshman year who will still be with you at your 50th reunion. Giving your all on the field for your team because you know that putting on the maroon and gold is something special. The special hug you get when you walk into the Commons for lunch. Competing in an academic competition knowing the preparation you made put you in a place to succeed. Salisbury University represents something uniquely special to all of us.

Your gift to the University Greatest Need Fund will make an impact in several areas such as reducing student debt after graduation, improving aging classrooms, and supporting student research, just to name a few. Your gift, combined with others, will make a difference.
